PCD at MTV...

Pyro! Press Clippings! Platforms! Pussycats!

Yes, PCD’s rehearsal is in full swing, as the girls perfect their footwork for tomorrow night’s performance of “When I Grow Up.”

Without giving too much away, let’s just say there’s whole lot of, well, everything going on at the moment, as the Dolls descend staircases, pirhouette on raised platforms, and duck licks of flame, all while massive video screens burst with images of diamonds, tabloid headlines and, uh, hearts (it is PCD after all). Dolls mastermind Robin Antin watches on with her army of choreographers.

Oh, and there’s even a bevy of surprise guests who descend from the ceiling at performance’s end, but I’m not allowed to say just who they are … At least, not yet.

(Check out photos of the Pussycat Dolls dress rehearsal here!)

The MTV Movie Awards will air live on MTV on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET, with MTV News’ “Coming Attractions” preshow kicking the evening off at 7:30 p.m. ET! Meanwhile, stay tuned to the MTV Movies Blog and MovieAwards.MTV.com.

Kimberly Wyatt for Gabriel Goldberg

I really like these. Kim is really breaking out of the box, first shooting her VH1 magic reality show, and now these shots. Here's hoping she does more non-PCD work in the future, as well as other Dolls.

Pussycat Dolls Prepare For MTV Movie Awards...

Pussycat Dolls Prepare For MTV Movie Awards

Performance -- And 'The Next Level'

'If you liked the first one, you're going to love this one,' Nicole Scherzinger says of upcoming sophomore album.

BURBANK, California — It's a scene that probably wouldn't be out of place up the road at Hef's humble abode, but here in a dance studio in Burbank, it's a decidedly different affair.

The Pussycat Dolls — a five-piece now, since the departure of Carmit Bachar back in March — are bumping, grinding and sweating with a shocking level of precision and professionalism. They're putting the finishing touches on their performance for Sunday night's MTV Movie Awards, a shimmying, gyrating showstopper that's designed to both drop jaws and promote "When I Grow Up," the first single from their upcoming new album (due later this year).

And though there is plenty of giggling and a fair amount of horseplay, it's also clear from their drill-team synchronicity and the looks on their faces that the 'Cats clearly mean business.

"This is a big deal for us. We just want to kill it. It's all about the Dolls right now, and we're coming strong," said Nicole Scherzinger, the de facto leader of PCD. "We feel really good about this new album, we feel really good as a group, and we feel like this new album is really the next level for us. If you liked the first one, you're going to love this one."

That's big talk, because lots of people liked their first album, the glossy and flossy PCD, which, based on the success of singles like "Don't Cha" and "Buttons," sold nearly 3 million copies in the U.S. alone and made the Dolls the heirs apparent to the Spice Girls' bedazzled throne. So, clearly, there's a fair amount of pressure on the group this time out, which is why they've turned once again to some old friends for help on album number two.

"We're working with some of the same crew on this one. Timbaland is executive-producing, Cee-Lo Green is on it, Polow Da Don, Sean Garrity — they're on it too," Scherzinger said. "There are songs on the album that people wouldn't expect from PCD — some smooth, slow jams, some alternative jams. We're really coming ferocious with the music this time out."

Of course, first single "When I Grow Up" is neither a slow jam nor a particularly alternative one, but it's most certainly ferocious. A hyper-speed slice of super-pop produced by Rodney Jerkins, it features sirens, handclaps, pitch-shifted vocals and a certifiably undeniable chorus that attempts to dive a centimeter or two deeper than your average radio fare.

"All of us started with a dream. I know when I was young, and I would sign people's notebooks, I wrote, 'Remember me when I'm famous,' and I don't know of a little kid who hasn't aspired to be someone," Scherzinger said. "The lyrics go, 'When I grow up, I wanna be famous, I wanna be a star, I wanna be in movies,' but there's a twist at the end, because it says, 'Be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it.' "

It's a theme that's getting plenty of traction these days — beware the high cost of fame — but Scherzinger and the Dolls say they're not trying to talk to the Britneys and Lindsays of the world. Rather, they want the song to inspire but hope that listeners will grasp the cautionary tale contained within. Or, you know, something like that.

"We're not pointing a finger, because we don't think it's nice to judge," Scherzinger laughed. "Because sometimes people judge us, and it's mean."

The MTV Movie Awards will air live on MTV on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET! Find all the latest updates on nominees, presenters, performers, voting, contests, movie exclusives and much more at MovieAwards.MTV.com. And check out Movies.MTV.com for the latest movie news, trailers, photos and more!

Carmit - Savvy Interview

By Steven Stiefel
Carmit Bachar is set to loosen up your buttons, baby...

Her name is: Carmit Bachar

Her bag is: Pop/R&B

She sounds like: Nicole Scherzinger and Melody Thornton.

Download these songs: Don’t Cha, Buttons, StickWitU

Carmit Bachar is a Pussycat Dolls veteran, having joined the group way back when in 1995. At the time, gas was still cheap, the twin towers were still standing, and the ‘Dolls were a burlesque show.

Bachar stuck it out longer than any other Doll; she experienced the transformation of the group into top pop recording artists, toured in support of their multi-million selling album PCD and now she’s set to do her own thing.

Yes, much to the despair of my ‘Dolls fans, and much to the delight of many aspiring ‘Dolls, in March, she officially announced her departure from the Pussycat Dolls on the group’s official website. She tells Savvy she’s leaving on good terms to pursue solo projects, including bringing her “multi-genre cabaret” called The Zodiac Party to television and recording a solo album.

Although she’s well known for her looks, she’s proud to be ambassador for worldwide philanthrophic organisation Operation Smile and inspire children born with cleft lip/cleft palate, as she was. She’s an example that anyone can overcome their personal challenges and grow up to achieve their dreams – of becoming Savvy Divas!

“I want to educate and inspire people by saying that inner beauty is more important than looks,” she said. I sat down with the gorgeous redhead during a recent visit to Los Angeles…

Savvy: Do you want to chill in my Lamborghini?

Bachar: (Laughs) Oh my God… Sure…

Savvy: How many times? How many lies?

Bachar: Never again, no more.

Savvy: How long you been sneakin’? How long you been creepin’?

Bachar: I don’t need to creep. I don’t need to sneak.

Savvy: Don’t you wish your boyfriend was hot like me?

Bachar: (Laughs) I don’t know. We haven’t met!

Savvy: For the record, yes, I do wish my girlfriend was hot like you… but don’t say anything to her!

(Laughs)

Bachar: Okay. Glad we got that out of the way.

Savvy: Since you were the only original Pussycat Doll in the group when the quintet struck it huge on mainstream radio, how did things change from when it was just a burlesque act for Hollywood hipsters?

Bachar: In the old days, we would perform at the Viper Room and The Roxy on the Sunset Strip. Celebrities were our fans in addition to performing with us. It was fun, a cool time.

Savvy: Two former Savvy models, Rachel Sterling and Staci Flood, are former Pussycat Dolls. Back then, you performed with numerous guest vocalists, with a repertoire of 1950s and 1960s pop standards while dressed in lingerie or old-fashioned pin-up costumes. You were the only troupe member who remained after the 2002 re-casting process with Interscope Records.

Bachar: When we first got signed to a record deal, it was a scramble to find what our style would be. It was crucial to our image because people already had this preconceived notion of what we were going to sound like and what we were going to be, maybe because we looked sexy before we showed we were talented singers. The last song we recorded became our first single.

Savvy: Nicole Scherzinger became the front woman, yet you and Melody Thornton were also vocalists for the group. Did so much focus on Nicole create any tension?

Bachar: Well, Nicole had been in a group (Eden’s Crush) before she became our ringleader, our quarterback. She’d been through the fire and knew what it was like. It was new to the rest of us so we looked to her for leadership. Everyone’s role was equally important.

Savvy: A lot of people might have assumed that Nicole was the singer and the rest of you were just eye candy, but you studied music, dance, piano and viola at the Hamilton Academy of Music in Los Angeles, right?

Bachar: Yes. During that same time period, I competed internationally as a rhythmic gymnast for 10 years and placed 5th in the U.S. Olympic trials in 1992. My mother worked as a dance teacher and my father worked with Elvis Presley and Marcel Marceau.

Savvy: You’re leaving the Pussycat Dolls on good terms after 13 years of performing, and you’re working on other things. Tell us more.

Bachar: I’m collaborating with a lot of people, including Macy Gray, who is a good friend of mine. It is fun to venture out and see what other sounds are going to be featured when my solo album comes out in 2009.

Savvy: Is it safe to say your solo album will shake my booty?

Bachar: I like to dance and move. I like to make everybody party. But there is an array of styles on everyone’s iPod, and you can expect some dance songs and some ballads. I love the urban crossover sound as well as soul. I have a very spiritual voice.

Savvy: What is The Zodiac Show?

Bachar: It is a multi-genre performance event for singers, dancers, rappers, aerialists, poets, and every other kind of professional performing artist coming together on stage to display their true passion with the highest level of skill. I’ve hosted this event for six years at Hollywood’s biggest venues. Every number takes it to the limit. I call it my rock ‘n roll version of Cirque du Soleil. We will have a television portion of the event, which will be one of the driving forces of this show. Stay tuned.

Savvy: A leading lad’s mag named you as one of the 100 Sexiest Women in the World in 2008. We concur…

Bachar: Yes, that is exciting. The Pussycat Dolls were on Top 100 lists for a few lad’s mags, but it is exciting to see a spotlight put on my solo career and my philanthropic work. I’m always stepping it up a notch and ever evolving.

Savvy: Tell us about Operation Smile.

Bachar: I’ll be on a mission trip to Bolivia this summer to entertain and educate children while they are preparing for pre-op work. Anything I can do, singing or activities, in arts education to keep them entertained and show that they can live their dreams the way I have.

Savvy: That’s pretty cool. And you’re not bad looking either.

Bachar: Ah, thank you. People say there’s something unusual about my look. When I was a child, I had surgeries to repair my cleft lip/cleft palate. I think that’s why I believe that beauty starts from the inside out.

Savvy: You’re the perfect combination of the two, but how important is talent when you’re pleasing to look at?

Bachar: You have to have something to say. Looks and talent do go hand in hand with reaching the next level of celebrity. There’s also the marketing aspect because there are so many people trying to make it in this industry. You have to keep your fans excited and wanting to follow you in your career.

Savvy: Lead the way. We’ll follow.

When I Grow Up [Instrumental/Karaoke + Lyrics]

Sing along!

boys call you sexy
and you don't care what they say
See everytime you turn around they screaming your name

Now ive got a confession
When I was young I wanted attention
And I promised myself that I'd do anything
Anything at all for them to notice me
But I aint complaining
We all wanna be famous
So go ahead and say what you wanna say
You don't know what its like to be nameless
Want them to know what your name is
Cus see when I was younger I would say

When I grow up
I wanna be famous
I wanna be a star,
I wanna be in movies

When I grow up
I wanna see the world
Drive nice cars
I wanna have groupies

When I grow up
Be on tv
People know me
Be on magazines

When I grow up
Fresh and clean
Number one chick when I step out on the scene

Be careful what you wish for cus you just might get it
You just might get it
You just might get it

Be careful what you wish for cus you just might get it
You just might get it
You just might get it

I used to tell them I was silly
Until I popped up on the TV
I always wanted to be a superstar
And knew that singing songs would get me this far

But I aint complaining
We all wanna be famous
So go ahead and say what you wanna say
You don't know what its like to be nameless
Want them to know what your name is
Cus see when I was younger I would say

When I grow up

You just might get it

Be careful what you wish for cus you just might get it
You just might get it
You just might get it

I see them staring at me
Oh im a trendsetter
Yes this is true cus what I do, no one can do it better
You can talk about me, cus im a hot topic
I see you watching me watching me and I know you want it

When I grow up
I wanna be famous
I wanna be a star,
I wanna be in movies

When I grow up
I wanna see the world
Drive nice cars
I wanna have groupies

From Nicole's fan myspace:

NEW PUSSYCAT DOLL NEWS
Current mood: animated

THEY'RE BAAAAACCCCKKKKK!!!

Hello dear friends and fans,

First I want to say an extra special thank you to GLADYS for never giving up on finding a proper forum for Nicole and her fans. As I mentioned in a previous post, I had to take a little time offline to do some soul searching after all the ups and downs of the last few months, but now I'm back STRONGER than ever! But enough about me! I know you come hear to read up on Nicole and what is happening with the DOLLS so here I go!!!

First, I must tell you that the DOLLS have never been as close (and as strong) as they are today! They have always been like sisters, but as we all know families have their highs and lows. Right now, they are MORE UNTIED THAN EVER!!! I think you can tell when you watch their Jimmy Kimmel performance. Normally, to get to that LEVEL of performance, an artist has to go out for months on tour and play hundreds of shows. Not these GIRLS!!! NOPE!!! That was their VERY FIRST PERFORMANCE of the new single and it was incredible. Nic and I watched it over and over again on TIVO and all I kept saying was "Girl, how do you do that???" From walking down those huge steps in the intro and not even looking down... How does she not fall in those shoes??? To dancing full out and STILL being able to sing live and not be winded??? I can't do that. Can you??? Wow. I think I have the most talented Best Friend in the whole world!!! We both agree (Nic and I) that that POWER, THAT TALENT, that ability to inspire millions... is just the GOD-energy inside of her. She can channel that higher power so well it gives her the ability to connect with everyone in the audience. What a beautiful gift!

I was just hanging out with all the rest of the girls and they are doing better than ever! Kim has the fiercest new haircut and her dancing is more brilliant than ever! Wow, that girl is flexible! Ashley... oh Ashley... She is the silliest, funniest, wackiest, most charming girl ever. I never stop laughing when I'm around her! Beautiful pin up Jessica is now a red head and that girl is so beautiful she can pull of any color. Melody, the baby, is really really coming into her own. I see her growing so much as an artist and her voice is so magical... I love her! As a group, they are TRULY better than ever. I am so excited about all the exciting things coming up!

WATCH the MTV MOVIE AWARDS. You are never gonna believe what they are doing!!! All I can tell you is it is a HUGE production and if you thought the Kimmel performance was awesome, then you will be completely dumbfounded by this one. Robin and the girls have been putting in 10 hour rehearsals to make this the best PCD performance ever!

What else can I tell you??? OH, its Nicole's Bday soon and I am trying to plan something special. HELP??? What do you think I should get her? What do you think YOUR best friend would like? Right now, I am thinking of taking her to Catalina Island on my dad's boat for some special girl time... kayaking, paddling, bike riding... Nicole loves Nature and the Ocean so I think that will be perfect. MAYBE I might even post some pictures if you are really, really lucky. smile.gif (nicole is way too busy to go online so feel free to post ideas in your comments)

Last but not least, please go BUY THE SINGLE TOMORROW. May 27th is the release date!!! If it isnt asking too much, please buy the single from my home page at www.YourAwareness.org YA is an affiliate of Itunes and Amazon, so we make a little money for charity everytime you buy music off www.YourAwareness.org ! How cool is that??? YA is my big project now, just like this new album is Nicole's new baby. Nicole has really been helping me figure out a way to take YA to the next level and I would be so appreciative to get all your feedback as well!

I hope you ALL are healthy and happy! As my gift to you, I will have Nicole write a special post JUST FOR THIS MYSPACE. You wont see it anywhere else but here! You will have to thank GLADYS for that. She has done such a great job of promoting Nicole and the dolls, so it's the least I can do! Expect a Nicole post SOON!!! Until then, go buy "When I Grow UP" on the homepage of www.YourAwareness.org !!!

Love, Laugh, and Learn,

Katie

Pussycat Dolls Seek Help From Cruz [5.22.2008 - 12:17]

The PUSSYCAT DOLLS have enlisted the help of British singer/songwriter TAIO CRUZ to spice up their new album.
The girl group's lead singer Nicole Scherzinger has put her solo career on hold to concentrate on the band's second LP and they have called in Cruz to write them some songs.
Cruz, whose breakthrough single Come On Girl entered the U.K. music charts' top five in March (08), will be teaming up with the band at a recording studio in Los Angeles and admits he is determined to give their music a complete make-over.
He says, "I'm really excited about meeting the Pussycat Dolls. I've quite a few ideas bubbling away and I want to do something that will be a complete contrast to their usual style.
"Nicole has put her solo career on hold to concentrate on PCD so it's a really important album. Since Come On Girl, I've been receiving lots more calls about writing for people."

Eden's Crush - Popstars [Question]

I recently bought a new, unopened copy of the Popstars cd, to replace my 7 year old scratched copy. I was wondering if anyone would like a HQ CDRip (VBR mp3s) of the album. As it is over 7 years old now, I think it's ok to post. In my opinion, EC was a better balanced band than PCD, and all of the girls could, and were able to, sing. Leave a comment below.
