Ashley's Blog [10.15.08]

Australia Rocks!!!

Wow.. I feel so loved and had such a warm welcome here in Australia. I can't believe we haven't been out here more often. We were in Sydney for a couple days and got to perform in front of the Sydney opera house for X box. It was raining outside but that didn't stop us or the fans from standing outside and still enjoying the concert. Was so fun!! As well as performing for the early morning show Sunrise.. and let me just say.. all the fans there were incredible!! I felt on top of the world.

Today we landed in Melbourne where I was greeted by this young girl who is a fan. She made the most amazing scrap book.. it made my day!!!! The best present I have gotten in awhile. So much thought and effort went into it. Thank you so much to all the Aussie fan's!!! You make me feel so much love.

11 Questions With Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger:

Spotted at PCDWorld

SOURCE

Nicole Scherzinger has been ultra-busy promoting the Pussycat Dolls' just-released album, 'Doll Domination.' Nonetheless, the lead singer of these burlesque queens turned pop stars shares her intimate secrets with us, including who she is crushing on and who should play her in 'The Nicole Story.'

No. 11
Who's one celebrity you would love to be
right now?
I was gonna say Bono, but honestly he's trying to save the world. So I would not wanna be Bono because that's too much on my shoulders [laughs]. I'd want somebody who looks like they have the funnest life ever, just has the best life. I guess maybe I'd want to be Snoop. He's so cool.

No. 10
What's one song you wish you had written?
'Imagine,' by John Lennon, 'cause it just answers so much. It's a legendary song, it was revolutionary and it's timeless.

No. 9
What's one band that you think is totally underappreciated?
I've always been a fan of Keane. Maybe they have blown up, but they can be bigger than they are.

No. 8
Who was your celebrity crush growing up?
There are two of them: One was Jonathan [Knight] from New Kids on the Block, which is so crazy, because we have a song with New Kids on the Block. And then my biggest crush growing up was this actor Jonathan Brandis. He's not with us any longer, but I had the biggest crush on him. I used to make tons of collages with him. He was the guy all over my locker when you open it up.

No. 7
Who's the current celebrity crush?
My all-time crush growing up -- and still will forever remain my crush -- is Johnny Depp. I think he's everybody’s crush.

No. 6
What is the tour must-have accessory item?
Good music -- that, or as an accessory,
great lashes.

No. 5
Who would play you in your biopic?
Maybe Jennifer Lopez or Cameron Diaz; I don't know. I'm such a goofball, [but] J. Lo is all hot and spicy, but she's still really fun. And then Cameron Diaz is just like goofy and I'm really goofy and they both I feel like are very relatable, real people.

No. 4
What is your biggest phobia?
I don't like mean people. Is that a phobia? I don't like that more than anything in life

No. 3
How do you deal with paparazzi?
I just try to stay away as much as I can, mind my own business, mind my P's and Q's, hopefully they'll leave me alone.

No. 2
Who's your dream collaborator?
I would say Prince. One of my favorite songs he has done is 'Sometimes It Snows in April.' If we could do our own version of that, and maybe then an uptempo [song] as well, something like 'Purple Rain' or 'When Doves Cry,' that would
be genius.

No. 1
What's your favorite '80s song?
Let's go with Pat Benatar -- 'Heartbreaker' or 'Love Is a Battlefield.' Or there's Tiffany's 'I Think We're Alone Now.' No, you know what I'm totally sticking with, I'm sticking with 'Toy Soldiers,' Martika. Just give me 10 minutes and then I'll be more
decisive [laughs].

All dolled up!

Doll Domination's upon us with the release of the Pussycat Dolls' sophomore album of that name, featuring the Top 10 single and VMA winner "When I Grow Up."

It's hard to believe that it's been three years since the fierce quintet of Nicole, Ashley, Jessica, Melody and Kimberly first set dance floors ablaze with the worldwide No. 1 hit "Don't Cha," followed by their self-titled multi-platinum debut album, which included sizzlers "Stickwitu," "Beep," "Buttons" and "Wait a Minute."

Gay.com talked with PCD member Melody Thornton about the new album and PCD's ever doll-icious style.

So how does your style change on "Doll Domination"?

I think with the second album we do come back even stronger and harder for the album packaging and the first video. It's very much a superhero-esque theme, especially with Nicole's half-top with futuristic sleeves in the "When I Grow Up" video. It's really dominating dress.

Are the Dolls trading in their sex-kitten sensibility for something a little more ferocious?

Yeah, we're already seeing a different Pussycat Dolls. We've changed, but haven't. The music has grown but still caters to Pussycat Dolls fans ... and so yeah, it's graduated.

The Dolls have always seemed like a strong unit with very little individuality -- aside from lead singer Nicole.

With the first album, there was a lot of focus on Nicole, but on the second album we're widening the lens as much as possible.

OK, so break it down for me. Who's who?

Each girl is nice and talented, and that applies to everyone. Ashley is a phenomenal dancer and great singer. She's the blond bombshell, but has this boho-chic, hippie-ish style. Kim is punk rock, and a very fierce and untouchable dancer. Jessica is our pin-up with a classic hourglass shape, and she's a very talented singer-dancer. I always describe myself as both Latin and African-American, so I am representing culture, as well as Nicole, who's Hawaiian and Filipina. Nicole, as we all know, is a classic exotic beauty.

OK, enough about them. Let's get to know you a little. How would you describe your personal style?

We have been doing a futuristic-themed style with very interesting choices, I will say. But we have fantastic people who help us like Jessica Pastor (the famed stylist who works with Eva Longoria, Hillary Duff and Jessica Simpson), Robin Antin and Sammy and Judy. We've been wearing latex pants, which really pop onstage. There's been a lot of silver, yellow, red and black. We switch it up.

Where do you look for style inspiration?

I admire other female entertainers like Jennifer Lopez and also Sienna Miller and Mary Kate. It's a huge world, and there are so many things you can be, and I love be a different character each day, like the whole vintage '60s girl. I just really love fashion.

Who is your favorite fashion designer of all time?

I have been in love with Thomas Wylde. I recently purchased an incredible bag, and it broke the bank. I really appreciate Marc Jacobs and Zac Posen, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood. I really like the shape and corseted fit of Vivienne Westwood. It looks like how much it cost.

If money were no object, what clothing item would you splurge on?

I would buy all the Christian Louboutins in the world, all the Rick Owens leather jackets, and all the Balenciaga bags in every color. I would just go for it, and get everything and anything I want.

Would you agree with this statement? You can never have too many accessories.

I do not agree with that. I guess, to a certain degree, it depends if it's put together nicely and strategically. I don't mind a lot of necklaces and bangles, but they should be in the same family, not 700 silver and gold necklaces or bracelets together. I also hate random miscellaneous bracelets on people's arms.

Getting to your fans for a moment, is there anything that's just "too gay" to wear?

It depends on the person. I think if the guy is gay and still trying to date girls and it's obvious, then you can tell if the guy's wearing pants and they're kind of tight. I think it looks great on Chris Brown, though. And if a guy's wearing a Kylie Minogue or PCD t-shirt with sequins or rhinestones on it, then you have to question. But real men cry and wear pink, so it's fine.

What was the No. 1 fashion don't for 2008?

Well for women, I got tired of the potato sack dresses that showed no figure. It allowed for a lot of women to eat whatever they wanted and not take the high road and work out. Whenever I went shopping, that's all they had. But what happened to the nice, form- fitting cute dresses? For guys, the Kanye glasses ... I really got tired of that.

Which fashion trend of the last 25 years should be brought back and which should be totally avoided?

I love bell bottoms. I always see pictures of my mom from the '70s, and she was rocking those cute high-waisted bell-bottoms.

I'm really tired of black tights, like Lindsay Lohan wears. Like can we replace them with shiny opaque tights? You can still wear those.

What are your style forecasts for 2009?

Very shapely ... just shapes ... I'm looking for shapes ... more fitted and more corseted. I want everyone to catch up to Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.

Next Single [Confirmed]

PCD's new US single, as I speculated some posts ago, premiered today on TRL, indicating to viewers everywhere that "I Hate This Part" is the newest single. Good choice. The girls seem allowed to sing with the track live now (seeing as they cannot go on with solely Nicole's voice) and I appreciate that. The performance below is a good example, although Nicole was kinda rough, but remember it was about 9 in the morning. The girls sound wonderful, and you could see the "Stickwitu" vibe with the hand swaying toward the end. The song, although of sad content, is quite touching and emotional. I am hoping this will rejuvenate the album like "Stickwitu" did three years ago. I will be posting some the remix EP soon, however I will only provide the radio edits.

Y alguien me dejó un comentario, que me preguntó si hablo español. Ahora creo que sabes la respuesta :P LOL espero que te guste el blog y que visites más en el porvenir, amigo!

IHTP: Next Single

It seems that IHTP has been sent to radio for adds on October 21st. This could very well indicate that it is indeed the next single and that Interscope now intends to release WTAT as solely a digital/radio/promo single. It would explain the quiet release of the WTAT to iTunes, however.

WTAT: Digital Remixes EP

Spotted at Rap-Up

The Pussycat Dolls will release a remix EP for their latest single “Whatcha Think About That” featuring the video version of the song as well as the Darkchild remix with Missy Elliott and André 3000. The EP hits digital retailers on October 21st.

PCD Vocal Share...Petition!

From Tetro at PCDWorld Forums...

To: 'A&M Records', 'Interscope Records', 'Universal Music Group'

As fans and supporters of the international recording group 'The Pussycat Dolls', we acknowledge and accept that Nicole Scherzinger fulfils the role as lead singer, and therefore contributes a minimum of 51% of the lead and background vocals in any song recorded under the trademark.

As fans of the group, we express our negative feelings towards the fact that the other four current members (Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts and Kimberley Wyatt) make little vocal contribution to songs produced under the trademark ‘The Pussycat Dolls’. Many songs released by the group contain solely Scherzinger's vocals (in examples such as ‘I Hate This Part’, ‘Halo’ and ‘Out Of This Club’), which do not truly reflect the group as a whole.

By contributing a signature to this petition, each individual makes these demands:

1. All members of the group ‘The Pussycat Dolls’ (Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts and Kimberley Wyatt) must contribute to all background vocals on the album. We do not accept the method used by producers of the group’s material of duplicating and layering a single member’s vocals in order to achieve the effect of multiple vocals by multiple members. We do not accept that this method be used as a substitute to multiple vocalist contribution.

2. All members of the group (Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts and Kimberley Wyatt) must contribute lead and/or solo vocals on all future albums, unless clearly stated that a song is performed by a single member, and not through a group effort. We define a ‘lead and or/solo vocal’ as a vocal contribution by a member of the group that is not recorded in synchronisation with any other vocal contribution by other members.

3. At least two members of the group must contribute a lead/solo vocal on every future song recorded. We accept that Scherzinger may contribute one out of two of these solo vocals to every song produced by ‘The Pussycat Dolls’. We do not accept that only one single vocalist may solely contribute to the lead and/or solo vocals of a song credited as a group effort.

Please note that this petition is not driven through negative feelings towards Nicole Scherzinger as an individual artist, but through positive feelings towards the recording group 'The Pussycat Dolls'. We believe that, as fans of both the recording group and its vocalists as individuals, by using Scherzinger to contribute the overwhelming majority of vocals on all songs by the group, any solo career attempted by Scherzinger will yield less success than its full potential. It has been often commented by fans and other individuals that there is no discerning quality between material produced by the recording group ‘The Pussycat Dolls’ and the individual recording artist Nicole Scherzinger, which has been identified as a negative factor in the decision of purchasing material by either recording acts. Fans have stated that material produced by the two recording acts is “similar”, “indistinguishable” and “boring”. By introducing more equal vocals in material produced by ‘The Pussycat Dolls’, the two recording acts can define themselves as separate entities, therefore attracting different fan-bases, yet also satisfying fans who wish to buy material by both recording acts.

We, as fans and supporters of the international recording group ‘The Pussycat Dolls’, believe that ‘The Pussycat Dolls’ and the individual recording artist Nicole Scherzinger will both benefit by shared vocal contribution between the recording group’s members; Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts, Kimberley Wyatt, and any members that may be credited as a member of the recording group in the future.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Doll Domination Debuts at #4

Per Billboard 200, the Pussycat Dolls' sophomore release has debuted 1 chart position higher than their first offering, 2005's PCD. The album has sold approximately 80,000 copies in its first week.
