As fans and supporters of the international recording group 'The Pussycat Dolls', we acknowledge and accept that Nicole Scherzinger fulfils the role as lead singer, and therefore contributes a minimum of 51% of the lead and background vocals in any song recorded under the trademark.
As fans of the group, we express our negative feelings towards the fact that the other four current members (Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts and Kimberley Wyatt) make little vocal contribution to songs produced under the trademark ‘The Pussycat Dolls’. Many songs released by the group contain solely Scherzinger's vocals (in examples such as ‘I Hate This Part’, ‘Halo’ and ‘Out Of This Club’), which do not truly reflect the group as a whole.
By contributing a signature to this petition, each individual makes these demands:
1. All members of the group ‘The Pussycat Dolls’ (Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts and Kimberley Wyatt) must contribute to all background vocals on the album. We do not accept the method used by producers of the group’s material of duplicating and layering a single member’s vocals in order to achieve the effect of multiple vocals by multiple members. We do not accept that this method be used as a substitute to multiple vocalist contribution.
2. All members of the group (Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts and Kimberley Wyatt) must contribute lead and/or solo vocals on all future albums, unless clearly stated that a song is performed by a single member, and not through a group effort. We define a ‘lead and or/solo vocal’ as a vocal contribution by a member of the group that is not recorded in synchronisation with any other vocal contribution by other members.
3. At least two members of the group must contribute a lead/solo vocal on every future song recorded. We accept that Scherzinger may contribute one out of two of these solo vocals to every song produced by ‘The Pussycat Dolls’. We do not accept that only one single vocalist may solely contribute to the lead and/or solo vocals of a song credited as a group effort.
Please note that this petition is not driven through negative feelings towards Nicole Scherzinger as an individual artist, but through positive feelings towards the recording group 'The Pussycat Dolls'. We believe that, as fans of both the recording group and its vocalists as individuals, by using Scherzinger to contribute the overwhelming majority of vocals on all songs by the group, any solo career attempted by Scherzinger will yield less success than its full potential. It has been often commented by fans and other individuals that there is no discerning quality between material produced by the recording group ‘The Pussycat Dolls’ and the individual recording artist Nicole Scherzinger, which has been identified as a negative factor in the decision of purchasing material by either recording acts. Fans have stated that material produced by the two recording acts is “similar”, “indistinguishable” and “boring”. By introducing more equal vocals in material produced by ‘The Pussycat Dolls’, the two recording acts can define themselves as separate entities, therefore attracting different fan-bases, yet also satisfying fans who wish to buy material by both recording acts.
We, as fans and supporters of the international recording group ‘The Pussycat Dolls’, believe that ‘The Pussycat Dolls’ and the individual recording artist Nicole Scherzinger will both benefit by shared vocal contribution between the recording group’s members; Nicole Scherzinger, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts, Kimberley Wyatt, and any members that may be credited as a member of the recording group in the future.
Sincerely,
